LBI Region Report: Terrace Tavern and the start of Small Biz Week

Join us as we kick off National Small Business Week here at the Jersey Shore. Learn about the many events happening, this week and next, for small businesses. Also our special guests will be Toby, Mike, Cassie, and Steve from the Terrace Tavern/Delaware Ave Oyster House to talk about the new chapter in their family’s business story.

he regional chamber has partnered with a variety of organizations to make National Small Business Week a local resource in the Long Beach Island Region. All are invited to participate in a business breakfast, pop up meeting, open houses and classes.

On Tuesday, May 2 and Wednesday, May 3 the Southern Ocean County Chamber is celebrating National Small Business Week with a special Small Business Open House. The drop in events will take place at the Southern Ocean Chamber of Commerce offices located at 265 West Ninth Street in Ship Bottom from 11:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m. where small business owners and entrepreneurs will have access torepresentatives from Ocean County SCORE for one on one mini business strategy sessions, SBA lenders for financial assistance for new and expanding business plans, Atlantic City Electric for business basics and Southern Ocean Chamber members for discussion on doing business locally.

During the May 2 session, bi lingual services will be provided for Hispanic business owners to familiarize themselves with some of these offerings. Santander Bank and Atlantic City Electric will be providing translators and Spanish speaking representatives. Additional events include:

May 4 & 5 -Food Safety Manager Certification course and exam The Southern Ocean Chamber is partnering with the LBI Health Department to co-sponsor this event on the second floor of Chamber building. Pre-Registration is required, a discounted fee for chamber members is $60 and includes course books. The event is closed, thank you to all who registered!

MAY 10 – Pick a morning or Afternoon meeting….

– Innovate & Caffeinate Small Business Breakfast At 815am, registration begins at Holiday Inn Manahawkin for Innovate and Caffeinate a breakfast meeting that packs in networking and dynamic speakers in under two hours. The cost is $20 with advance RSVP or $25 at the door. The speakers include New Jersey Tourism Industry Association Executive Director Joseph Simonetta discussing minimum wage, Air BnB, Transportation Trust Fund and other legislative issues affecting small business and resort communities. Mr. Simonetta is an experienced lobbyist and Government Relations Consultant to American Institute of Architects NJ, and the Hotel & Lodging Association and will share the latest happening in Trenton. In addition Sheryl Paynter Lead Lender Relations Specialist from the US Small Business Administration and Donald Schafer of Ocean County SCORE will present an overview of SBA programs and free business counseling – In partnership with Skye Gibson CFP

May 10- Small Business Pop UP in partnership with Ocean County Board of Realtors held at 330pm at vacant commercial location for touring. 912 W Bay Ave Unit 6 in Barnegat’s Acme Plaza. Refreshments will be served $10 suggested donation to benefit the Maximillian Foundation and Hope Sheds Light. Brief Keynote from Ocean County SCORE/SBA RSVP to Southern Ocean Chamber.

May 17 – Wind down the Small Business events, and gear up for summer with the chamber’s Annual Get Acquainted Summer Kick Off party at Panzone’s Restaurant in Beach Haven from 5-8pm Food, light conversation, networking, live music and a cash bar will be the perfect way to reconnect with those you met throughout the weeks leading up to the party.
