JACKSON – A 58-year-old maintenance employee was found guilty of stealing an Apple watch and over $4,000 in cash from an apartment complex, officials said.
Troy Jones was found guilty of Burglary and Theft in connection of an incident that occurred in Jackson Township on December 22, 2021.
After an almost two-week trial, the jury concluded beyond a reasonable doubt that Jones unlawfully entered a home in Jackson and stole property valued in excess of $500.
Jones is scheduled to be sentenced on May 31 at which time he faces up to five years New Jersey State Prison.
The thefts were reported on Chatham Court West in the Gardens at Jackson 21. The occupants told police that after returning home from work around 6 p.m., they discovered that $4,500 in cash and an Apple watch were missing.
Jackson Township Police Detective Brian Baranyay discovered that Jones, who is a maintenance worker at the complex, used a master key to enter the home and steal the money and watch.
On January 12, 2022, Jones was charged with burglary and theft and a warrant was issued for his arrest. The following day, Jones surrendered himself at Jackson Township Police Headquarters in the presence of his attorney. Jones was processed and transported to the Ocean County Jail, and subsequently released as a consequence of New Jersey Bail Reform.
