TOMS RIVER – A former teacher who took explicit photos of himself while alone in his classroom was sentenced to jail and will never be allowed to teach again.

Police said Kyle Banner, 49, of Brick, will be required to register as a Megan’s Law offender and will be permanently prohibited from having any contact with his victims. Furthermore, his teacher’s license was forfeited. He will serve 180 days in jail and will have parole supervision for life.

He was a teacher at both Toms River Intermediate North and Ocean County College.

Intermediate North administrators had been alerted of his behavior on April 23, 2023 and on the next day, he was suspended form his position without pay. He pled guilty to three counts of Endangering the Welfare of a Child.

Police said he took sexually explicit photographs of himself in the intermediate classroom and posted them to his public Twitter profile, which intermediate students later viewed. Detectives also discovered that Banner sent inappropriate photographs of himself to a student via Snapchat between the months of October and December 2022. Detectives also recovered numerous images of Banner engaging in sexual conduct with himself in his classroom at Toms River Intermediate North.

Ocean County Prosecutor Bradley Billhimer acknowledged the diligent efforts of Assistant Prosecutor Kimberly Carr who handled the case on behalf of the State, and commended the Ocean County Prosecutor’s Office Special Victims Unit, Ocean County Prosecutor’s Office High Tech Crime Unit, Toms River Township Police Department Detective Bureau, and Ocean County Sheriff’s Office Crime Scene Investigation Unit, for their collaborative efforts in connection with this investigation.
