BERKELEY – One person was injured after a car crashed into a shopping plaza on Route 9 Monday, police said.
Around 11:23 a.m., a blue Volkswagen crashed into NovaCare Rehabilitation, located at 333 Route 9 in Bayville. According to police, the driver was trying to park in the handicapped parking space adjacent to the building. The driver told police that while repositioning, the vehicle “accelerated unexpectedly.”
As a result, an employee was injured, however they later refused further medical attention. The driver and his wife were uninjured in the crash, police said.
The vehicle sustained significant damage and was subsequently removed by Priced Right Towing.

The Bayville Fire Department Station 17 and the Berkeley Township building inspector responded, and NovaCare Rehabilitation was boarded up due to being deemed structurally unsafe.
This crash is currently under investigation by the Berkeley Township Traffic Safety Bureau.
