TOMS RIVER – Police are still investigating a boat that ran aground, causing several of the occupants to be injured – one seriously.
“There was a total of eight occupants on board and three were ejected,” said Trooper Charles Marchan of the New Jersey State Police. John P. Boyle III, 58, of Bedminster, was operating the vessel at around 9 p.m. on August 14. He sustained moderate injuries.
“Three occupants sustained no injuries, three sustained minor injuries and one sustained serious injuries. The cause of the crash remains under investigation and there is no additional information available at the moment,” he said.
Middle Sedge is colloquially known as Hankins Island, and it stands out in the Barnegat Bay near Chadwick Island because of the abandoned and dilapidated mansion that sits upon it.
Police, EMS, and firefighters responded to the scene as well as several non-local agencies, said Jillian Messina, spokesperson for the Toms River Police.
More information on this will be shared as it is provided to the media.
