BERKELEY – A man was left injured after a car struck him this morning in Berkeley Township, police said.

Around 10:53 a.m., officers responded to the area of 430 Atlantic City Boulevard and found a man lying on the ground.

According to authorities, and the pedestrian was crossing the roadway from the east and wasn’t in a cross walk. A blue Mazda was traveling southbound on Atlantic City Boulevard when the pedestrian crossed the road, and the car was unable to see the pedestrian enter the roadway.

The collision resulted in the pedestrian being “pushed through the air and dragged along the pavement” police said. The Mazda shattered its windshield but was otherwise undamaged.

Both the driver and passenger of the Mazda were both uninjured. The pedestrian suffered a severe laceration to the face, a compound fracture to the right arm, a broken right leg, and road-burn all along the left side of his body, police said. He was airlifted to Jersey Shore Medical Center via MedEvac for further evaluation.

The vehicle was later removed by Jersey Shore Towing without further incident.

At this time, the crash is under investigation by Officer Slocum of the Berkeley Township Police Department.
