MONMOUTH COUNTY – A pedestrian and a bicyclist are dead from traffic incidents that occurred Saturday evening, officials said.
The first incident occurred around 7:45 p.m. in Howell Township near the area of Route 9 and Strickland Road. It involved a pedestrian – 71-year-old man from Howell – who was pronounced deceased at the scene. The driver involved, a 58-year-old man from Howell who was operating a 2016 Honda CR-V, remained on the scene, officials said.
Around 9 p.m., a second incident occurred in the area of Route 36 and Monmouth Road in West Long Branch. According to officials, a 55-year-old bicyclist was rushed to Monmouth Medical Center, where he was pronounced deceased shortly after arrival. The driver involved, an 18-year-old man from Tinton Falls who was operating a 2018 Range Rover, remained on the scene.
No charges or summonses have been issued pertaining to either of these incidents at this time.
