TOMS RIVER – Two pedestrians were killed after being hit by a car Tuesday evening in Toms River, police said. TOMS RIVER – Two pedestrians were killed after being hit by a car Tuesday evening in Toms River, police said.

Around 6:55 p.m., officers responded to the area of Fischer Boulevard just north of Hazelwood Road regarding a crash involving two pedestrians. A 2021 Toyota Corolla operated by Sholto Roach of Toms River was travelling northbound on Fischer Boulevard when he struck 72-year-old Craig Parson and 68-year-old Debra Wright both of Toms River.

According to police, Parson and Wright were attempting to cross the roadway at the time in an east to west direction and were hit in the right lane.

Both were brought to Community Medical Center in Toms River where they succumbed to their injuries, police said. Roach was treated for non-life-threatening injuries as a result of the crash.

Multiple lanes of Fischer Boulevard were shut down for several hours for investigation. At this time, no citations have been issued.

The investigation is being handled by Officer Nelson of the Toms River Police Department’s Traffic Safety Unit assisted by the Ocean County Sheriff’s Department CSI Unit and the Ocean County Prosecutor’s Office.
