JACKSON – A local man has been sentenced to prison after stabbing a man, resulting in his death, authorities said.

J’Shawn Cutler, 28, of Jackson, was sentenced to 24 years New Jersey State Prison in connection with the death of Isaiah Renouf, 23, also of Jackson, which occurred in Jackson on June 19, 2020. This sentence will be subject to the terms of the No Early Release Act (NERA), meaning that Cutler will be required to serve at least 85 percent of his prison sentence before he may be considered for parole eligibility.

On June 19, 2020, a 911 call brought police and first responders to a home on Cannon Boulevard where they found Renouf on the floor with a large wound to his chest. Lifesaving measures were attempted at the scene and Renouf was then transported to Monmouth Medical Center Southern Campus in Lakewood, where he was pronounced deceased, authorities said.

A post-mortem examination determined the cause of Renouf’s death to be a stab wound to the heart, and the manner of death to be homicide.

It was later discovered that Cutler stabbed Renouf in the home, which ultimately caused his death.

Cutler was apprehended on June 19, 2020 following a motor vehicle stop by police. Cutler has been detained in the Ocean County Jail since his apprehension.
