TOMS RIVER – Two people were killed and a child was hurt in a two-vehicle crash on Hooper Avenue, authorities said.

Ocean County Prosecutor Bradley D. Billhimer said officers were called to the intersection of Hooper Avenue and Fischer Boulevard around 8:45 p.m. on September 11 for a serious collision.

Investigators determined a 2016 Chevrolet Equinox driven by a 46-year-old man crossed the grass median and hit a 2025 Toyota RAV4 carrying a 28-year-old woman and her 4-year-old passenger. The Toyota overturned and came to rest in a wooded area along the east side of the road.

The Toyota’s driver was pronounced dead at the scene. Her child was taken to Jersey Shore University Medical Center in Neptune and was reported to be in stable condition.

The Chevrolet’s driver was also transported to Jersey Shore University Medical Center, where he remains in stable condition. A woman riding with him was taken to Community Medical Center in Toms River and pronounced dead.

The Ocean County Prosecutor’s Office Major Crime Unit-Vehicular Homicide Squad and Toms River police are continuing the investigation with assistance from the Ocean County Sheriff’s Office Crime Scene Investigation Unit.
