TOMS RIVER — The Ocean County Prosecutor’s Office will partner with the U.S. Drug Enforcement Administration this weekend for National Prescription Drug Take Back Day, offering residents a safe way to dispose of unused or expired medications.

The event is scheduled for Saturday, April 25 from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m., with a designated drop-off location set up outside the Ocean County Library at 101 Washington St. in Toms River.

Officials said the initiative aims to remove potentially dangerous medications from homes, helping to prevent misuse and protect public health.

Residents can discard tablets, capsules, patches and other solid prescription drugs. Vaping devices will also be accepted if lithium batteries are removed. However, liquids, syringes and illegal substances will not be collected.

The biannual event, launched in 2010, has led to the collection of more than 19.4 million pounds of medication nationwide. During the last Take Back Day in October 2025, more than 571,000 pounds were turned in at over 4,300 sites across the country.

Ocean County Prosecutor Bradley D. Billhimer encouraged residents to participate, calling the program an important step in limiting access to unused prescription drugs.

Additional details and other drop-off locations are available at bit.ly/2021collectionsites.
