JACKSON – The Jackson Board of Education has unanimously approved District Business Administrator Dan Baginski as the next superintendent of schools, with his tenure set to begin July 1.

The board voted 6-0 to appoint Baginski at its most recent meeting. Board member Megan Gardella did not participate in the vote or search process after recusing herself due to a conflict, though she addressed the board to explain her decision.

The appointment follows what officials described as an extensive search that included feedback from staff and community members. That input helped shape a candidate profile used throughout the selection process.

“We were committed to a thorough and transparent process that reflected the voices of our community,” said Board Vice President Brian McCarron, who co-chaired the superintendent search. “Mr. Baginski exceeded expectations across the board.”

Board leaders said Baginski is positioned to transition seamlessly into the role, citing his deep familiarity with the district and its needs.

“He brings academic leadership, financial expertise and a forward-looking vision,” said co-chair Erica Osmond. “He is prepared to step in immediately and continue moving the district forward.”

Baginski has spent decades in education, beginning as a math teacher before advancing through roles as a supervisor and principal in Jackson. He later served 10 years as assistant superintendent overseeing curriculum, human resources and operations. He was named business administrator in 2024.

Officials said that breadth of experience gives him a comprehensive understanding of both classroom instruction and district operations.

During the meeting, Baginski thanked the board for its confidence and acknowledged outgoing Superintendent Nicole Pormilli for her mentorship.

“Our community has faced challenges, but today represents a step toward stability,” Baginski said. “We will focus on building a strong, lasting foundation, guided by resilience and growth.”

He emphasized that student success will remain central to decision-making.

“Every decision begins with how it impacts our students,” Baginski said. “They deserve our very best, and I’m ready to get to work alongside this community.”

Pormilli, who will retire July 1 after 33 years in education — including 11 in Jackson — said she is confident in the district’s future leadership.

“It is difficult to step away from a community I care deeply about,” she said. “But knowing the district is in capable hands gives me great confidence moving forward.”

The district received a large pool of applicants, with candidates undergoing multiple rounds of interviews. Board members said Baginski stood out throughout the process.

“His understanding of Jackson and his leadership qualities made him the clear choice,” Osmond said.

The board will now begin searching for a new business administrator, while Baginski prepares to outline his vision for the district in the months ahead.
