MANCHESTER – A garbage truck overturned and slammed into a pickup truck Thursday morning outside the Ocean County Landfill, leaving three people injured, police said.

The crash happened around 11:05 a.m. on May 21 at the intersection of State Highway 70 and Green Acres Road, according to Manchester Township Police.

Investigators said a gray 2004 Mack garbage truck was traveling eastbound on Route 70 at a high rate of speed when the driver attempted to turn into the entrance of the Ocean County Landfill at 2498 Route 70. Police said the driver applied the brakes while making the turn, lost control of the truck, and overturned onto the driver’s side.

The overturned truck then struck a Ford F-150 that was stopped at a traffic light waiting to exit the landfill.

Police identified the garbage truck driver as Marquis Dove, 28, of Plainsboro. Dove suffered non-life-threatening injuries but declined medical transport.

A passenger in the truck, Harrie Garris, 58, of Toms River, sustained non-life-threatening injuries and was taken to Community Medical Center for evaluation and treatment.

The Ford F-150 was driven by Bryan Bollhardt, 30, of Forked River. Bollhardt suffered minor injuries and also declined medical transport. A passenger in the pickup, Richard Bollhardt, 65, of Forked River, was not injured.

Authorities partially closed the roadway during the investigation and cleanup efforts.

Emergency responders from the Manchester Township Division of Emergency Services, Robert Wood Johnson Paramedics, Hatzolah, Taylor’s Towing and Priced Rite Towing assisted at the scene.

Police said the investigation remains ongoing, but unsafe speed appears to be the primary contributing factor in the crash. Patrolman Brendan Brush of the department’s Traffic Safety Unit is leading the investigation.
