STAFFORD — A juvenile riding an electric bicycle was flown to a hospital Wednesday evening after colliding with a passenger vehicle in Stafford Township, police said.
The crash happened at about 6 p.m. June 3 at Parker Street and Hillard Boulevard, according to the Stafford Township Police Department.
Police said a preliminary investigation found the juvenile was riding the e-bike on the shoulder of Hillard Boulevard against the flow of traffic. At the same time, a passenger vehicle stopped at a stop sign on Parker Street was turning right onto Hillard Boulevard.
As the vehicle entered the roadway, the e-bike struck the passenger side of the vehicle, police said.
The juvenile was injured and taken by medical helicopter to Jersey Shore University Medical Center for evaluation and treatment. Police said the injuries were not believed to be life-threatening.
No charges have been filed. The crash remains under investigation by the Stafford Township Police Department Traffic Safety Unit.
Police used the crash to remind e-bike riders to follow traffic laws and stay alert while riding. Parents were also encouraged to review New Jersey e-bike laws with their children, including when to yield, how to cross roads safely and the importance of wearing a helmet.
