TOMS RIVER — A special meeting of the Toms River Township Council scheduled for Thursday night has been canceled by order of Mayor Daniel Rodrick.
The meeting had been set for 6:30 p.m. June 4 at the Toms River Municipal Building. Township officials issued notice on the township’s website that the session would not take place.
The special meeting was scheduled after the council’s May 27 meeting ended before several items could be addressed. That session became contentious and was adjourned before the council could act on some pending business.
According to a prior legal notice from the township, council members were expected to consider several matters, including possible immediate action involving amendments to the 2026 municipal budget. Officials also said the council could take up consent agenda items left unresolved from the May 27 regular meeting, as well as the bill list from that session.
The notice for the special meeting had been issued under the Open Public Meetings Act and was posted on the municipal bulletin board, filed with the township clerk and placed on the township website.
Jersey Shore Online reached out to Mayor Rodrick to find out why the meeting was called off. We have yet to hear back.
