HOWELL – Country Village, a townhouse community in the Adelphia section of Howell, cut the ribbon on two playground restorations that were done in their community.
One of these is a smaller, more toddler-oriented playground near the mouth of the development, while the other one, which is located on Pickett Place, is much larger and more dedicated to older children. The ribbon-cutting event took place at the larger one, signifying that both are now open for the children to enjoy.
Deputy Mayor Susan Fischer was the one who did the honors of officially cutting the ribbon to declare the new playground open.
While the old playgrounds still fit safety standards and were regularly inspected, with the influx of young families into the community, the residents of Country Village decided that it was time to do a full-scale restoration of the playgrounds. The two playgrounds that were there before the restoration were originally installed when the community was built over 30 years ago, meaning it was time for an upgrade, especially with the community’s changing demographic.
Carol Stevenson, the Homeowners Association president for Country Village, said that this project has been over 5 years in the making, passed down to them from previous HOA cabinet members who got the ball rolling and started saving up money and creating a budget for the restoration. A few delays took place over that time, with rising costs of material and labor, making it so that the funding needed for such a project took more time to obtain than originally anticipated.
Nolan Belfer, the head of the playground committee for Country Village, was named to the role last fall. When he took over, he got in contact with several contractors to see who could provide the best services for what they were looking for at the best rate. Once they found a group they were willing to work with, construction of the playground was completed in under 6 weeks.
The ribbon-cutting ceremony was put on by Tina Venturini. She reached out to the Howell Town Council regarding the ceremony, helped provide entertainment for the event, and asked several local businesses to sponsor and cater the event as well. Live music for the ribbon cutting was provided by DJ Frankie Sauce, a well-known DJ in the shore area. Dunkin’ Donuts and Terrace Bagels were a few of the businesses that catered for the event, while The Closing Machine, a real estate company, helped sponsor the event as well. Ice cream was also available for those who attended the event.
Venturini also played a pivotal role in getting the Howell police department and fire department to show up to the event as well. Children who attended the playground’s opening were allowed to tour one of the fire engines that was on display.
She spoke about how important it was for the community to get something like this built.
“It shows pride and ownership in where we live, and it’s an investment in the children of the community,” she said. “I hope we can show our children what good community leaders look like with this.”
Both parks are now open for the community to attend at any time.
