POINT PLEASANT BEACH — A Monmouth County woman has been arrested after police said she slapped a young girl during a confrontation on the Point Pleasant Beach boardwalk over patriotic sweatpants with political wording.
According to the Point Pleasant Beach Police Department, officers responded on the evening of July 3 to investigate an alleged assault involving an adult woman and a female juvenile.
Investigators said the suspect became upset over the juvenile’s patriotic-colored sweatpants featuring political wording before allegedly striking the girl twice with an open hand — once to the body and once to the face. The suspect then left the area before officers could identify her.
Following an investigation by the department’s Detective Bureau, police identified the suspect on July 6 as Kaitlyn Tracey of Allenhurst.
Tracey was charged with simple assault, endangering the welfare of a child, harassment and obstruction, according to police. Detective Korey McCormack filed the charges.
Police said Tracey turned herself in during the early morning hours of July 13 and was taken into custody without incident at police headquarters. She was processed and transported to the Ocean County Jail, where she is being held pending a detention hearing under New Jersey’s bail reform law.
The investigation received assistance from the Asbury Park Police Department, the Ocean County Prosecutor’s Office, the Toronto Police Service’s 11th District and the U.S. Customs and Border Protection Intelligence Team.
Authorities reminded the public that all criminal charges are accusations and that Tracey is presumed innocent unless and until proven guilty in court.
