TOMS RIVER – Summer is the time of year that districts hire, promote and transfer staff. At a recent Toms River Board of Education meeting, a number of these changes took place, and some notable ones are below:
Jasmin Bell was in charge of Intervention and Gifted Education at Pine Beach Elementary. Now she will be Supervisor of Instruction at Beachwood Elementary.
Christopher Blessing was an assistant principal at High School North. He was promoted to principal.
Anne Marie Gingerelli was an Intermediate North school psychologist. She is now the Supervisor of Special Education there.
Similarly, Kevin Huff was a school psychologist at Intermediate South and was promoted to Supervisor of Special Education.
Christine Manna was Cedar Grove Elementary’s Supervisor of Instruction, and will now be the principal.
Joseph Shore taught in the resource room at High School North and will now be the assistant principal.
Board members and administrators welcomed the new staff and remarked how the promotions were all from within the district.
When it came to hiring teachers, the vote went off with only one thing to note. Board member Kathleen Eagan recused herself on the vote hiring Heather Eagan to teach Spanish at High School East. The rest of the board vote to approve the entire list of hires.
Board member Jennifer Howe is a substitute teacher in other districts and she said when she’s in classrooms she learns a lot about what kind of teacher that person is so she was happy to see Eagan on the hire list, after having been her substitute in the past.
Special Education Hub
The district is still taking steps toward the potential opening of a special education hub at Intermediate North.
The board is seeking a New Jersey Inclusion Project grant for the projected Special Services Hub. The funding amount would be $1,100,000 for the 2026-27 school year and potentially the following two years. The New Jersey Department of Education grant would provide support and materials for special needs students.
