MANCHESTER – Police officers rescued an 86-year-old man from a car that was sinking in a golf course water hazard early Sunday morning, authorities said.
Manchester Township police responded at about 4:52 a.m. Sept. 20 to the Renaissance at Manchester community near Halstead and Esplanade drives.
Officers Sean Rembach and Donald Miller found resident George Migner calling for assistance as his black 2024 Nissan Altima sank deeper into the water, police said.
Rembach entered the water and swam to the vehicle while Miller deployed a rescue throw bag from shore. Working together, the officers helped Migner escape the car and reach land safely.
The Altima became fully submerged after Migner was rescued.
Migner told investigators he had been attempting a K-turn when he mistakenly stepped on the accelerator instead of the brake while shifting into reverse. The car then traveled over an embankment and entered the water, police said.
Manchester EMS evaluated Migner at the scene for a minor injury.
The Ridgeway Volunteer Fire Company and Whiting Fire Water Rescue and Recovery Team also assisted at the scene. Police thanked the emergency personnel involved for their coordinated response.
