BRICK – A township man has been charged following an investigation into a series of vehicle burglaries that targeted work vehicles in Brick and Point Pleasant, authorities said.
Brick Township police began investigating several burglaries reported on the north side of town during September. Authorities said approximately $15,000 in tools, equipment and other property was stolen.
Detectives identified the suspect as Anthony S. Cerchio, 35, of Brick. After obtaining a court-approved warrant, members of the department’s Patrol Division, Street Crimes Unit and Detective Bureau searched Cerchio’s home and vehicle, police said.
Investigators recovered approximately $15,000 in tools and other property believed to have been taken during the burglaries, according to police.
Cerchio was charged with three counts each of burglary and theft, as well as receiving stolen property and fencing. He was released on a summons pending a future court appearance.
Police said additional evidence linked Cerchio to vehicle burglaries in Point Pleasant Borough, where more stolen property was recovered. Point Pleasant Borough police filed separate charges involving incidents within that municipality.
The charges are accusations. Cerchio is presumed innocent unless proven guilty beyond a reasonable doubt in court.
