TOMS RIVER — Drivers heading toward Seaside Heights on Route 37 should expect overnight delays October 28 & 29 as crews test the Mathis Bridge over Barnegat Bay.
The New Jersey Department of Transportation said eastbound traffic will be stopped for 15-minute intervals between 9 p.m. and 5 a.m.
Crews will position trucks equipped with crash cushions across the roadway before the bridge to stop vehicles while testing is underway.
The work includes checks of the movable bridge’s safety interlock system to verify safe operation for motorists and boaters.
The testing is part of federally funded inspections conducted under the National Bridge Inspection Standards.
Drivers should reduce their speed, watch for crews and allow additional travel time.
