MANCHESTER — A tractor-trailer struck several trees after skidding off Route 70 near County Route 539 Friday morning, leaving parts of the intersection closed for about two hours, police said.
Officers responded around 9:20 a.m. November 6 and found a white 2019 International truck and its trailer roughly 50 feet into the woods at the intersection’s northeast corner. The trailer was carrying two large shipping containers.
Investigators determined the truck was heading east on Route 70 when its driver braked hard after seeing the traffic light turn yellow. The truck began sliding toward the intersection, and the driver regained enough control to steer toward the woods, where it hit multiple trees, police said.

The driver, Lasaun Gibson Jr., 27, of Camden, was wearing a seat belt and reported no injuries. The truck sustained extensive front-end damage, but no other vehicles were hit.
Crews closed portions of the intersection while Priced Rite Towing removed the truck and trailer. Personnel from the Manchester Township Division of Emergency Services and Whiting Volunteer Fire Department also assisted.
Police said weather conditions and driver inattention are suspected contributing factors. Patrolman Sage Sysol of the department’s Traffic Safety Section is continuing the investigation.
