KEYPORT – A local man was charged with stealing a little more than $61,000 from an appliance repair company, police said.
Eduardo “Edward” Murillo, 46, of Keyport was charged with third-degree Theft by Unlawful Taking or Disposition and third-degree Impersonation/Identity Theft.
Murillo met the store owner at a church in Matawan, police said. He told the victim he was highly experienced in accounting and he began handling the finances of the victim and their company.
Between 2017 and 2019, Murillo allegedly made unauthorized transactions, spending the proceeds on personal expenses and sports betting. He faces up to five years in prison.
