HOWELL – Several first responders rescued an injured construction worker who fell into an open trench Tuesday, authorities said.
Police, Fire and EMS units responded to Church Road at the Jackson Township border regarding a construction worker who fell about 20 feet into an open trench. First responders were able to reach the injured man using ladders and stabilized him until he could be removed from the trench.
The victim, a 66-year-old man from Bridgewater, suffered moderate injuries.
A specialized rescue team from the Asbury Park Fire Department entered the trench and was able to safely hoist the man out from the trench with assistance from a construction crane. Howell First Aid & RWJ MICU evaluated him before he was brought to Jersey Shore Medical Center for further care.
OSHA responded and will be conducting an investigation regarding the worksite accident, police said.
