LAKEHURST – A driver is being sued by an insurance company representing the Lakehurst Board of Education after he allegedly crashed his car into a playground, which caused over $16,000 in damages.
On March 4, 47-year-old David M. Rehl of Jackson Township allegedly lost control of his car and hit three parked cars, a fire hydrant, bushes and a mailbox before running over a fence at Lakehurst Elementary School on Pine Street.
The lawsuit filed alleges that Rehl carelessly drove through the playground where he ultimately cam rest at a parking lot fence, damaging the fencing surrounding it.
After a claim was filed by district officials, the district’s insurance carrier School Alliance Insurance Fund said it paid the district $16,240. The lawsuit states that they seek reimbursement of that amount in addition to interest, court costs and attorney fees.
Court documents state that Rehl was charged with operating a vehicle under the influence of alcohol or drugs, reckless driving, leaving the scene of an accident and other motor vehicle charges. He’s currently scheduled to appear in court on August 17.
