TOMS RIVER – A bicyclist was hospitalized after being hit by a car on Route 35 Tuesday morning, police said.
Toms River Police Department Spokesperson Jillian Messina told Jersey Shore Online that at around 11:45 a.m., the driver was traveling southbound on Route 35 South in the left lane and was turning left onto Fifth Ave when she collided with a bicyclist. The bicyclist was riding northbound on the east shoulder of Route 35 South against traffic. The bicyclist was transported to Jersey Shore Medical Center for treatment.
It was later determined by authorities that both parties shared fault in this incident. Police said that the driver failed to yield to a cyclist, and the cyclist was riding the wrong way on the wrong side of the highway.
