MANCHESTER – In stark contrast to last year’s mayoral race that stretched into a runoff, an unopposed incumbent councilman was returned to office on election night.
Republican Councilman Craig Wallis, who resigned from office toward the end of 2022, returned to office in February after being selected to fill the seat vacated in late January, by long-time Councilman Sam Fusaro who was moving out of the township.
In the unofficial county vote totals, Wallis won Fusaro’s unexpired seat with 6,756 votes and 114 write-in votes for other candidates.
The real contest was for three, three-year seats on the Board of Education. Six candidates sought those spots. The Putting Kids First slate was made up of Laura Wingler, 38, Pine Lake, who received 5,020 votes; Gloria Adkinson, 74, Renaissance Senior Community, who brought in 4,680 votes; and Timothy Poss, 36, who garnered 4,141votes.
They faced members of the Better for Manchester team that included Samuel M. Carollo, 73, who received 3,505 votes; Gina Georgiano, 60, who received 4,060 votes; and Bozena Czekalski, 44 who brought in 3,003 votes in the unofficial county vote totals on election night.
The tallies are unofficial until the County Board of Elections will take time to certify the results.
