TOMS RIVER – A mailman was assaulted and robbed the day before Thanksgiving, police said.
The incident happened just after 4 p.m. on November 22 near the corner of Madison and Lexington Avenues. A mailman told police that two males hit him in the head, knocking him to the ground, and kicked him in his head. They took his belongings and fled down Madison Avenue toward Hooper Avenue.

The mailman had seen the two men walking down the street as he was delivering mail in the area. He believed that a third man was involved, who remained in a car that they escaped in.
Police said that similar incidents have been reported elsewhere in New Jersey.
