LAKEWOOD – Authorities are investigating a crash that involved a car hitting a pedestrian Monday evening, resulting in their death.
The crash occurred around 5:30 p.m. at the intersection of New Hampshire Avenue and Erica Road.
According to police, a 67-year-old man from Brick was traveling south on New Hampshire Avenue in his 2021 Ford Escape when he struck someone. The driver told police that he did not see the victim prior to the crash but did stop to wait for the arrival of police and emergency medical services.
The victim was later identified as 28-year-old Ana Gabriella Mayorga-Baires, and she succumbed to her injuries at about 6:15 p.m. at a local hospital.
Police have not issued any summonses or charges at this time, and the crash is still under investigation.
