BERKELEY – A 66-year-old Bayville resident was rescued after driving into a waterway near a local marina last week, police said.
Around 8:15 p.m. on January 30, Berkeley Police responded to the area of Mill Creek Drive regarding a car driving into the waterway near Shore Point Marina. Authorities found a 2012 Hyundai Santa Fe about 500 feet into the waterway and a woman sitting on the hood of the vehicle.
The woman, who was identified as the driver, was rescued by Bayville Volunteer Fire Department and was brought to Community Medical Center by Berkeley EMS.
According to police, the woman had suffered an apparent medical emergency while driving her car, which was found to be the cause of the crash.
The New Jersey State Police Marine Unit responded to the scene of the crash to have the vehicle removed from the waterway. Police said there are currently no environmental hazards to the area.
