MANASQUAN – Yet another dead whale has washed up on the Jersey Shore, making it the ninth whale that has washed up on the New York-New Jersey coastline over the past three months.
Surfers and beach-goers found the whale at Whiting Avenue beach in Manasquan on Monday afternoon, Clean Ocean Action said.
“This alarming number of deaths is unprecedented in the last half century, the only unique factor from previous years, is the excessive scope, scale, and magnitude of offshore wind powerplant activity in the region,” Clean Ocean Action wrote in a statement. “Ocean and marine life advocates are concerned about the lack of federal action being taken to address the deaths of these marine mammals, which include endangered and protected species.”
