  TOMS RIVER – A man who allegedly used a machete to threaten a driver was arrested after a crash.   Police said that a road rage incident at around 6 p.m. on April 24 was the start of the situation.   TOMS RIVER – A man who allegedly used a machete to threaten a driver was arrested after a crash.

  Police said that a road rage incident at around 6 p.m. on April 24 was the start of the situation. The victim said he was stopped at a red light on Water Street when the suspect tapped on his window with a machete.

  The victim fled from downtown and got to the Ocean County Mall, where he was again spotted by the suspect, who chased him through the parking lot.

  The victim called 911 and drove to the Toms River Police Department. Police spotted the suspect’s Jeep heading north on Hooper Avenue but it sped away. Toms River Police notified Brick Police. Soon after, Brick Police spotted the vehicle crashed in their town. The machete was in view of officers.

  Austin Martinez, 29, of Beachwood was charged with Terroristic Threats, Possession of Weapon for an Unlawful Purpose, and Unlawful Possession of a Weapon.

  Charges are merely accusations until proven in a court of law.
