LITTLE EGG HARBOR – Authorities have released the identities of the victim and suspect involved in a murder/suicide that took place over the weekend.
Kimberly Hoffman, 49, of Little Egg Harbor Township, called 911 on July 29 around 5:10 a.m. stating that someone was breaking into her apartment on Whitemarsh Court.
When police arrived, they found Hoffman deceased with an apparent gunshot wound to the face.
Inside the home, police also found a dead dog with apparent gunshot wounds as well as deceased man with an apparent gunshot wound to his head.
The man, who has now been identified as Hoffman’s ex-husband, Carl Schulz, Jr., 52, of Little Egg Harbor Township, was found conscious when police arrived. He was subsequently transported to AtlantiCare Regional Medical Center in Atlantic City, where he later succumbed to his injuries.
According to authorities, Schulz shot Hoffman, and the dog, before turning the gun on himself.
Ocean County Prosecutor Bradley D. Billhimer acknowledges the Ocean County Prosecutor’s Office Major Crime Unit, Little Egg Harbor Township Police Department, Little Egg Harbor Police Department Detective Bureau, Ocean County Sheriff’s Office Crime Scene Investigation Unit, and Ocean County Medical Examiner’s Office, for their combined and collective assistance in connection with this investigation.
