BRICK – Officials have reported no injuries from a fire that broke out at the Chambers Bridge Residence Apartments Wednesday afternoon.

Around 3:47 p.m., the Brick Township Fire Department responded to the complex located at 175 Chambers Bridge Road for waterflow activation.

Once they arrived, they were advised of an active fire in one of the second-floor apartments. As a result, all township fire companies were dispatched.

Officials later determined that the fire had occurred in a hamper in a bedroom, which was being controlled by a fire sprinkler head, which had activated.

The fire was contained to the room of origin with some minor water and smoke damage to the apartment and surrounding units on either side and on the first floor, officials said. Firefighters worked swiftly and controlled the fire within minutes.

All of the residents in the 184-unit five story building, except for the fire damaged apartment and surrounding units, were able to return to normal operations within hours.

Officials reported no injuries, and the fire damage and displacement were kept to a minimum.

“The Bureau would like to thank the quick response of all the Brick Township Fire Departments, our mutual aid companies, Brick Township Police, Brick EMS and Township Emergency Management for their quick response and keeping damage to a minimum. It should be noted that the working fire sprinkler system and smoke alarms activation kept damage to a minimum, in conjunction with the quick the Fire Department response,” Brick Township Bureau of Fire Safety said. “The importance of working alarms and the presence of fire sprinklers are imperative to fire and life safety and no doubt kept the fire small and controllable with minimal disruption to the building.”

The scene was under command of Chiefs Joe Licandro and Tom Bisbal of Fire District 1 and is being investigated by Inspectors Joseph Sansone and Paul Matula from the Fire Bureau.
