Toms River Police Spokesperson Jillian Messina said the pole snapped in half with live primary wires on the ground.

As a result, a brush fire started, causing damage to the property of 591 Lakehurst Road. JCP&L responded and secured power to the area. Toms River Fire Company and NJ Forest Fire Service responded and were able to extinguish the fire.

McKinnon was issued citations for failure to maintain a lane and careless driving. She refused medical treatment at the scene, Messina said.

The accident remains under investigation by Patrolman John Carolan.
