WASHINGTON – Former US President Donald Trump has officially announced that he is running again for president in 2024.
“I am announcing my candidacy for president of the United States,” Trump said last night at his Florida estate, where his campaign will be headquartered.
This ends two years of speculation as to whether he would run, throwing his hat into the ring of others who have already been eyeing the prize.
The announcement comes only a week after midterm elections where Republicans failed to win control of the Senate and also struggled in many of the U.S. House and state office races. The GOP is still on pace to win control of the House, but most likely not by many seats.
Trump first ran in 2016 and defeated Democrat Hilary Clinton. When seeking re-election in 2020, Trump lost to Joe Biden who ultimately received the majority in the Electoral College with 306 electoral votes, while Trump received 232.
