TOMS RIVER – A Tuckahoe man has been indicted for fleeing the scene after he struck and killed a Toms River man earlier this year, police said.
Shortly after 9 p.m. on July 10, 51-year-old Jermaine Goines of Toms River was hit and killed by a flatbed truck while he was walking east on Route 40 in Mays Landing, authorities said.
Although the truck fled the scene, a 911 caller was able to provide a description of the vehicle and the direction it traveled.
The Hamilton Township Police Department later located the truck about three miles away and arrested the driver, 44-year-old Timothy J. Schellinger, Jr.
Schellinger, Jr. was indicted by an Atlantic County grand jury on one count of second-degree leaving the scene of a fatal motor vehicle crash, officials said.
