LACEY – A 28-year-old township resident now faces a slew of charges and a future court date after he allegedly drove drunk and crashed into a utility pole.

Lacey Township Police, Lanoka Harbor Fire Department, Lanoka Harbor First Aid Squad and RWJ Paramedics were called to the scene on September 1 at around 10:33 p.m. to the area of Route 9 and Laurel Boulevard.

28-year-old Alexander Stevens was behind the wheel of his 2020 Subaru Impreza when he left the roadway, struck a utility pole which split in half before the car overturned.

Police said Stevens was alert, conscious and outside the vehicle when they arrived. He was checked out by EMS but refused medical attention.

An on scene investigation revealed that Stevens was intoxicated and he refused a breathalyzer test. He was placed under arrest and charged with Refusal to Submit Breath Samples, Reckless Driving, Open Container, Failure to Maintain Lane and Careless Driving. Stevens was served with summonses and released in accordance with John’s Law.

Verizon and JCP&L had to come out to fix the pole and police had to close the road for a few hours during the probe and cleanup.
