MANCHESTER – The massive fire that completely destroyed a home and killed a woman Sunday evening has been ruled accidental by authorities.
Several officers as well as fire personnel responded to a home on Heron Street for a report a house fire, which was fully engulfed in flames upon arrival.
During the primary search of the home, authorities found the body of a woman. Officials said the body was transported to Community Medical Center for a post mortem examination and identification.
Another woman was rescued by first responders and she was brought to Community Medical Center in Toms River. She is currently listed in critical but stable condition.

After extensive investigation, officials determined that the fire originated in a garbage can on the patio. The cause of the fire was deemed to be accidental due to discarded smoking material, officials said.
Ocean County Prosecutor Bradley D. Billhimer acknowledged the Ocean County Prosecutor’s Office Major Crime Unit-Arson Squad, Ocean County Sheriff’s Office Crime Scene Investigation Unit, Manchester Township Police Department Detective Bureau, Manchester Township Police Department, Ocean County Fire Marshal’s Office, and Ocean County Medical Examiner’s Office, for their combined and cooperative efforts in connection with this investigation.
