MANCHESTER — A structure fire broke out Friday morning at AristaCare at Whiting, prompting a swift response from emergency personnel and the evacuation of dozens of residents, authorities said.
At approximately 11:40 a.m. on June 13, officers from the Manchester Township Police Department responded to reports of a fire at the long-term care facility. Upon arrival, officers observed flames and smoke confined to a single room in the second-floor west wing.
All residents and staff in the affected wing were safely evacuated before fire crews arrived. The blaze, determined to be caused by an electrical malfunction in a light fixture, was initially suppressed by the facility’s sprinkler system and fully extinguished by responding firefighters.
Roughly 50 residents were evacuated and evaluated by EMS personnel from Manchester and Ocean County, along with AristaCare staff. Sixteen residents from the impacted hallway were relocated within the facility. No injuries were reported.
Emergency response included all Manchester Township fire and EMS units, with mutual aid support from Lakehurst, Plumsted, Forked River, Bayville, South Toms River, and Joint Base agencies.
Authorities confirmed a complete accountability check was performed for all residents before emergency units cleared the scene.
The Ocean County Fire Marshal’s Office is assisting in the investigation.
