TOMS RIVER — A morning fire damaged a home in the Ocean Beach section of Toms River on Tuesday, authorities said.

The Ocean Beach Fire Company was sent to East Pelican Way at about 7:30 a.m. after a report of a structure fire. When firefighters arrived, they found flames burning outside the house near the electric meter panel.

The call was elevated to a working structure fire as crews began attacking the blaze. Firefighters brought the fire under control quickly and stopped it from spreading farther into the home, officials said.

No one was inside the residence when the fire broke out. A neighbor spotted smoke nearby and called 911. No injuries were reported.

The cause remains under investigation by the Toms River Bureau of Fire Prevention. Inspector Benjamin Carlin is heading the investigation. Early findings indicate the fire was accidental and started near the home’s electrical service.

The Toms River Building Department also responded and determined the home is not safe to occupy at this time.

Agencies that responded or assisted included the Ocean Beach Fire Company, Seaside Heights Fire Department, Seaside Park Fire Department, Lavallette Fire Department, East Dover Fire Company, Toms River Fire Company No. 2 and the Toms River Police Department.

Officials also thanked the fire departments, police and other support agencies that responded to the scene.
