BARNEGAT LIGHT – The Coast Guard along with good Samaritans helped four mariners after their boat became disabled about 85 miles off the coast.
According to the US Coast Guard, the 64-foot commercial fishing vessel Monica was experiencing transmission issues Tuesday. A Coast Guard Station Barnegat Light 47-foot Motor Life Boat (MLB) crew safely towed the vessel to Lighthouse Marina, in Barnegat Light.
Around 8:30 a.m., Watchstanders at Coast Guard Sector New York heard the distress call and contacted the Coast Guard Sector Delaware Bay command center.

About five miles from the shore, a commercial salvage company took over the towing operation. Additionally, Coast Guard Station Barnegat Light deployed two MLB crews to standby for support.
Officials said due to weather conditions, the safest way was to transfer the tow responsibility to one of the Station Barnegat Light MLB crews.
MLB crew assumed control of the tow at around 4:30 p.m. and safely towed Monica into Barnegat Inlet. The second MLB crew took the Monica in a side tow and transferred the disabled boat’s crew safely into Lighthouse Marina, where the Monica was securely moored, the Coast Guard said.
