  TOMS RIVER – More Americans are surviving cancer than ever before, yet survivors are often unprepared for the challenges of living beyond cancer. 

  The Leukemia & Lymphoma Society will host a free, in-person education seminar entitled Living Well with Blood Cancer: Unraveling the Mystery of Disability and Medicare on Saturday, November 18th, 8:30am – 12:30pm at the Clarion Hotel and Conference Center in Toms River.

  Local and state experts will discuss New Jersey Paid Family and Medical Leave, the state and federal laws that protect a patient’s job after as diagnosis, earned sick leave and the latest in navigating Medicare. Attendees’ questions will also be answered in preparation for open enrollment. 

  Alongside these informative topics, guests will have the chance to decompress with guided yoga meditation by a certified practitioner from Mary’s Place by the Sea and learn about The Leukemia & Lymphoma Society resources and support available throughout the cancer journey.

  Living Well with Blood Cancer: Unraveling the Mystery of Disability and Medicare is made possible with national funding from Bristol Myers Squibb, GSK, Lilly and Merck.  Local support provided in partnership with the New Jersey Department of Labor, Ocean County Office for Senior Services and Mary’s Place by the Sea.

New Jersey’s Local Blood Cancer Impact

  According to The Leukemia & Lymphoma Society’s Updated Data on Blood Cancers: Facts: 2022-2023, there are approximately 5,500 individuals in New Jersey diagnosed with a blood cancer each year and over 25,000 living with or in remission from a blood cancer in New Jersey throughout the last five years. Most of these individuals are facing a diagnosis of Leukemia or Non-Hodgkin lymphoma, closely followed by Myeloma.
