TOMS RIVER – An obituary and funeral details have been released for a couple who were killed in a car crash on Route 37 in Toms River.
Kiley Armstrong and Evan Fiore will have a joint funeral together, celebrating the two who had planned to spend the rest of their lives together.
Kiley, 21, and Evan, 23, were killed on March 7 after an unlicensed juvenile ran a red light at the intersection of Route 37 and Route 166, speeding at 118 miles per hour in a 35 mph zone. The juvenile smashed into the Toyota Corolla occupied by Kiley and Evan along with Kiley Armstrong’s twin sister Krista and her boyfriend Ryan Chapman.
Krista and Ryan were hospitalized after the crash and are still recovering from serious injuries.
According to the Ocean County Prosecutor’s Office, the driver has been charged as a juvenile with two counts of aggravated manslaughter, four counts of assault by auto and a host of other charges.
Visitation for the couple will take place on March 20 from 4 p.m. to 8 p.m. at Timothy E. Ryan Home for Funerals, located at 145 Saint Catherine Boulevard in Toms River.
The funeral mass is scheduled for March 21 at 11:30 a.m. at St. Joseph’s Roman Catholic Church, 685 Hooper Avenue in Toms River.
Both Kiley and Evan were lifelong residents of Toms River. The two were high school sweethearts and were inseparable for four and a half years, their obituaries state.
“Right around October 2020, Kiley’s family began hearing the name ‘Evan’ pop up in casual conversation, and once it started, it never stopped,” Kiley’s family wrote. “[They] started dating the next month, falling in love all but instantaneously, and they were inseparable thereafter – a perfect match.”
“Evan quickly accomplished one goal in particular that can often prove so elusive for so many – he found the love of his life,” his family wrote.
The couple graduated from Toms River High School North in 2021 and afterwards Kiley went to the University of Massachusetts. However, after two years, she transferred to Rowan University to be closer to Evan and family, her family wrote.
Evan played for the Mariners varsity ice hockey and track & field teams. While in high school, he started studying welding at the Ocean County Vocational Technical School. He was anticipated to earn an Associate’s Degree from Ocean County College in May.
For seven years, Evan worked as a welder/foreman for R&S Contracting and had dreams of opening his own business, his family wrote. Evan also worked as a lifeguard in Seaside Park, where he once rescued a swimmer in distress.
“He was good-natured, even in hard times. He was consistently calm under pressure, a trait that tended to rub off on others,” his family wrote. “No one who knew Evan well got to enjoy enough time with him. But all of them are forever grateful they got the time with him they did.”
Kiley interned as a physical therapy aide at JAG Physical Therapy in Toms River. She was set to graduate this May with a Bachelor’s Degree in Exercise Science, and aspired to continue her education with a Doctorate in Physical Therapy.
Kiley enjoyed celebrating Christmas in Cape May, watching the Spring Baking Championship, and summers spent on the beach. She also loved Mario Tennis & Soccer, line dancing, country music, and most recently, snowboarding with Evan. Among her most cherished possessions were a wide variety of stuffed animal friends, including a particular favorite in Snoopy.
“She will be as deeply missed as she was deeply loved by all of those who knew her best,” her family wrote.
Evan is survived by his mother Diana Fiore (Voorhees), father Gerard J. Fiore, Jr., and stepmother Alban Fiore (DeLorenzo), as well as siblings Emma Richardson, Gabriella Fiore, Mila Fiore, and Giada Fiore, along with a very large extended family, his obituary states.
Kiley is survived by her parents Phillip C. and Jocelyn Armstrong, siblings Phillip J. and his wife Jessica, Harper, and identical twin Krista, a grandmother, Juanita Hernandez, and many close aunts, uncles, and cousins, her obituary states.
A fundraiser has been set up to benefit the families affected by this terrible tragedy.
