  STAFFORD – Multiple departments responded to a fire that broke out around 4 a.m. on June 9 at the Home Depot of Manahawkin, officials said.

  The Stafford Fire Company said that there was heavy smoke in the building and that the store’s fire suppression system was working. It took about three hours to put the fire out. It is under investigation by the Stafford Township Bureau of Fire Prevention and local police.

  In addition to Stafford Fire, these other units responded to the initial alarm: Stafford Township EMS, Barnegat Fire Company, a FAST Team from Forked River Fire Company and an Ocean County Fire Coordinator.

  Waretown Fire Company and Eagleswood Fire Company were also dispatched due to the heavy smoke conditions. The EMS stood by and provided rehab while the firefighters worked. All units operated on scene for approximately 3 hours.

  Parkertown Fire Company and Lanoka Harbor Fire Company was on alert to protect the rest of Stafford while this incident took place.

  Stafford Fire thanked all the mutual aid agencies for their help: Barnegat Volunteer Fire Company Station 11, Forked River Fire Department, Waretown Volunteer Fire Company, Eagleswood Volunteer Fire Company, Station 52, Stafford Township Emergency Medical Services, Lanoka Harbor Vol. Fire Co. #1, Parkertown Volunteer Fire Company, Stafford Police, Stafford Office of Fire Prevention, Ocean County Sheriff Communications and Ocean County Fire Coordinators.
