JACKSON – A husband and wife from Toms River were killed in a head-on car crash on Route 571, according to township police.
Jackson Police Chief Matthew Kunz confirmed that 67-year-old Randy Rittenhouse and 61-year-old Elizabeth Rittenhouse died from their injuries in the April 10th crash.
Police said the couple was driving on Toms River Road when they were hit by a Ford driven by a 24-year-old Jackson woman.
The Ford was also carrying a 4-year-old passenger who, along with the driver, sustained serious injuries and were taken to Jersey Shore University Medical Center in Neptune.
The road had to be closed for several hours in the aftermath of the crash.
Several local authorities responded to the scene for the investigation including the Jackson Township Police, Ocean County Prosecutor’s Office, Ocean County Sheriff’s Department Criminalistics Investigation Unit, and the Ocean County Medical Examiner.
Witnesses to the accident are urged to contact Jackson Police Officer Anthony Ringle at 732-928-1111.
The accident is still under probe.
