SHIP BOTTOM – The work to improve the Route 72/Manahawkin Bay Bridge will cause closures of lanes on busy roads, the State Department of Transportation said.

The work will start at 7 a.m. on Monday, May 15 and will continue until Friday, May 19, based on weather and other factors.

Two lanes on Route 72 eastbound/9th Street will be closed for concrete and drainage work and to repave the roadway, they said. At least one lane will be open. They expect the second lane to be finished by the afternoon of May 19 and for all three lanes to be open on Monday, May 22.

“Crews are expected to work 24-hours-a-day next week to complete work before Memorial Day weekend. Motorists are advised to use caution, slow down and expect delays,” the Department said.

Additionally, the sidewalk on the north side of 9th Street from Hotel LBI to the Arlington Beach Club will be completed no later than Friday, May 19, they said.

This is all part of a $312 million Route 72/Manahawkin Bay Bridge project that began in 2013.
