In the early morning hours of August 14, a resident woke to the suspect in the living room with a gun, demanding money. When police arrived at the area, they saw a white BMW fleeing the scene.

Long Branch Police Corporal Cruz ordered the driver to stop but he continued to flee. Minutes later, police said the BMW was spotted heading toward another police vehicle at a high rate of speed. The BMW struck the police car.

Williams fled the scene of the crash and was found hiding nearby with a loaded gun. The 38-year-old woman in the front seat succumbed to injuries a few hours later at Jersey Shore University Medical Center. The officer in the crash was treated and released from the hospital.

The crash is under investigation by the New Jersey Attorney General’s Office of Public Integrity and Accountability, since it was a fatal collision where a police officer was involved.

Charges are merely accusations until proven in a court of law.
