LAKEWOOD – A New York man was arrested after he attempted to hit employees at a local supermarket and threatened to shoot them, police said.

The incident occurred around 9:30 a.m. this morning at the Evergreen Supermarket located at 945 River Avenue. Police said the suspect, later identified as 24-year-old Christopher Borker of Brooklyn, had attempted to strike a 45-year-old employee with his box truck.

Borker was delivering supplies and had initiated a verbal altercation after he tried taking a u-boat from a store employee who was using it at the time. Captain Gregory Staffordsmith said the altercation escalated when Borker threatened to get a gun and shoot the employees.

Borker then returned to his truck and attempted to strike at least one employee who was in the parking lot, Staffordsmith said.

Borker was arrested at the scene without incident. Police said no injuries were reported and no firearm was found.

“Although this investigation is still active, there is nothing to suggest that this dangerous act was motivated by race or religion and charges for Terroristic Threats, Aggravated Assault as well as a motor vehicle summons for Reckless Driving are forthcoming,” Staffordsmith said.

Anyone with additional information is asked to contact Det. Michael Dennis Jr at 732-363-0200 ext. 5348.

The story was first reported by The Lakewood Scoop who were also first on the scene as the incident was happening.
