JACKSON – An Old Bridge man drowned while boating in Prospertown Lake, police said.
Jackson Police Chief Matthew Kunz told JerseyShoreOnline.com that a 911 call came in at 2:25 p.m. on August 3 that a boat had capsized and one of the occupants did not come back up.
The Ocean County Prosecutor’s Office later released the identity of the victim, 29-year-old John Pereira.
Multiple law enforcement and first responders arrived at the scene, with boats and divers searching the lake, Kunz said. By that evening, the search had to be suspended due to weather conditions and lack of daylight.
The search resumed at 7 a.m. the next morning, and the victim was found at around 4 p.m. The body was turned over to the Ocean County Medical Examiner’s Office for examination.
In addition to Jackson Police, EMS and Office of Emergency Management, the NJ Fish and Game, Lakewood emergency services, New Jersey State Police, Ocean County Sheriff’s Department, Millstone Fire and Rescue and South Toms River Fire/Rescue.
